New ways of collaboration. I3SIXTY digital flipchart product review.
At the beginning of my blog, I have promised not only to discuss the nuances of remote working but also to review some specific examples of technologies that allow to perform it more efficiently.
Disclaimer: the mention of specific companies and products by me is not sponsored and/or not paid for. I write about what seems relevant to me and worthy of attention. If one day ads appear in my blog, I will definitely inform about this in advance.
Considering my unquenchable interest in all the developments that are related to group remote collaboration, I have been following i3-Technologies for a long time, whose team creates cool innovative solutions that are applicable both in any business and in education. They create products that are needed by the market, integrating the latest technological achievements of the industry and finding them an elegant application within the framework of the task.
Sometimes the birth of such products lies on the surface, but it is i3-Technologies that manages to put them into practice and fill them with useful features. It seems to me that this is exactly what happened with i3SIXTY — a mobile and interactive digital flipchart. When I got inspired by its video presentation and shared it with my husband, he slapped himself on the forehead and exclaimed: “This is brilliant! And it’s so simple that I don’t understand why no one had thought of it before!”
In fairness, it should be noted that among the advanced business solutions I have already met a digital flipchart, namely Samsung Flip, that the company presented at the Consumer Electronics Show last year. Using Flip, up to four different participants can introduce their content or annotate directly on the screen at the same time using either their fingers or a dual-sided pen. The device is compatible through both wireless connectivity and USB, PC and mobile ports. I particularly liked the feature of rolling stream providing 20 pages of writing space, with embedded search functionalities available to instantly direct participants to specific content. And of course, Flip display can configure to portrait or landscape orientations to suit any meeting needs.
However, with i3SIXTY, the i3-Technologies team went an extra mile, turning the digital flipchart, offering a 90-degree rotation of the display, into a full-fledged collaboration tool not only within one meeting room but also to interact with a remote team. To do this, the device is equipped with an integrated camera and dual mic, and it comes with a pre-installed Zoom application (my favourite one!) for video-conferencing.
In addition to the usual writing on the whiteboard, i3SIXTY allows you to open the Web browser, take notes over the image, make a screenshot and then open it next to the other flipchart pages! And when the meeting is over, the work can be not only sent by email or transferred to an external device but also saved as a QR code, having scanned which each participant receives his pdf version of the file. How cool is that?!
I think it’s better to learn more about the functions of i3SIXTY first hand by looking at the presentation of the company’s product manager. At the same time, on this video you can clearly see how easy it is to use the device so that it will not take months of training :)
Of course, i3SIXTY is intended primarily for working with groups on the spot, because for a full-fledged remote collaboration it lacks the functionality to directly interact with the content for those who watch the presentation on the screen through a conference connection. However, for such tasks, there are other technological solutions with specially installed software, both in i3-Technologies and in other companies, about which I will definitely tell you another time.
But if we are talking about large companies, where employees are regularly trained, about coworking and coliving spaces, about training centers, and so on, the advantages of switching from paper flipcharts and whiteboards to their digital counterparts are obvious.
Imagine a trainer who should conduct a leadership seminar for the employees of several companies. Having rented any room he likes and that can comfortably accommodate the planned number of participants, he, using i3SIXTY, would be able to conduct training for all participants in the room, and also connect through Zoom those who for some reason could not attend his training in person. At the same time, the recordings on his flipchart would be simultaneously broadcast on the screens of remote participants, and in the end, using a microphone, they would be able to participate in a general discussion of the topic.
The application of this technological solution in schools and universities is also endless. After all, it is possible to connect to the learning process even those who for some reason temporarily or permanently have switched to homeschooling.
Every day I encounter the preconceptions about the introduction of principles and practices of remote work in modern international companies. And no matter how long their journey to the opportunity to work with employees around the world would be, when this happens, the best technologies, including i3SIXTY or Zoom, will already be there.
What other solutions for the efficient work and interaction of the distributed teams are in the current business arsenal, I will be happy to tell you in the following articles. Stay tuned!
